Woman Jogging, Listening to iPod Had Legs Severed When Struck By Train

A woman out for jog while listening to her iPod had her legs severed by a freight train because she may not have heard it coming, authorities said.

Cheryl Ann Risse, 32, was recovering at a hospital Friday.

Authorities did not know how she ended up in the path of the train Thursday morning, but rescue workers speculated she did not hear the locomotive coming because she was listening to her iPod.

Risse often jogged across the tracks on her way to a nearby park, said Keyla Concepcion, spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The train engineer didn't know he had struck Risse until he returned along the same tracks minutes later, Concepcion said.

A passing sheriff's deputy noticed her waving her arms.

"My feet are on fire," she told Tony Long, a battalion chief for Pompano Beach Fire-Rescue, who responded to the scene. "Do you think you can put the fire out? They're really hurting."

The woman was expected to survive.

I constantly see people walking around with these things on their heads. How they walk around obvlivious to the world is beyond me.

I'm inclined to say that this woman got what she deserved...

Because she was listening to an iPod while running she deserves to lose her legs?

I would see this type of thing often in Blacksburg. Young women jogging alone after dark, oblivious to anything except their iPod. Pretty dangerous situations they were putting themselves in.

Girl running on the inside of a blind curve on the road to Cave Springs Park today, down in Lee County. Had to stand on the brakes, she had the phones in , running on the inside on the curve, ran across in front of me , and into the other lane without ever removing the phones or turning her head. I'm thinking life insurance on the girl would be much better odds than the lotto. It is a tough enough world, why make it worse? I had a friend that used to get on the train tracks to drink, so he could find where he was. That turned out to be a really bad idea, too.

LOL no kidding I would imagine listening to one on train tracks would be a worse offense than Listening to em while running. Still wouldn't imagine either would deserve a amputation.
